Fall Scented Candles
...not for sale on Amazon.
As a small business owner, I find myself often competing with big-name brands, chain retailers, and of course, Amazon.
I get it. Amazon is convenient. They have everything, and it's hard to beat Prime free shipping. Impossible, really (seriously, like many things, shipping is getting out of control expensive!).
And since Amazon is where the money is when it comes to things like affiliate marketing, all the 'best candle' round-ups I'm seeing these days seems to focus on Amazon: "20 Candles on Amazon You've Got to Smell to Believe," or "25 of the Best Candles You Can Get on Amazon."
Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but it seems to me like a lot of candles and brands on Amazon are doing just fine. Why not shine the light on small businesses making the choice to not be on Amazon?
Our small-batch candles are just as good (if not better!) than many of the mass-produced candles showing up on all of these Best of Fall lists.
Shop Values
But. All that to say, I was heartened by a recent email my husband received from the wife of one of his colleagues. And before heading into our 2022 list of Best Fall Candles not on Amazon, I wanted to share it with you because it's what makes the difference to small businesses like Scented Designs.
Here's what the email said:

Here she is, giving up the convenience of Amazon in order to support a locally-owned candle company.
I was of course more than happy to respond to this lovely woman, letting her know that yes, it is true! I am in the candle business, I do make the candles in my candle studio, and I do sell these candles wholesale and direct to consumer!
She has since ordered several fall scented candles from me, and we've emailed back and forth about scents and how she wanted to splurge on some fall candles in the first place because her son had told her that Fall is his favorite season.
So now we've started creating a relationship and she's excited to support my small business. That's not something you can buy on Amazon, folks.
She chose to shop her values rather than to simply shop on Amazon, and we need more conscious shoppers like her! Think about it: if you could shop your values, what would that look like? How would shopping by values make a difference in your life and the lives of those around you?
You don't need an answer now...just think about it :)
