Most Eco Friendly Candles

Welcome to Scented Designs, a woman-owned candle company in California!

Spring is here, and besides shopping all the best spring scented candles, that also means that Earth Day is coming up on April 22.

Why are we bringing this up? Because Earth Day is a time for us to reflect on the impact we have on the planet and take steps towards a more sustainable future, and we'd love for you to join us on this journey.

As individuals, it can be overwhelming to think about all the changes we need to make to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the environment. However, small changes can make a big difference, and even just one switch in our daily lives can have a positive impact on the planet.

What can this one change look like for candle lovers like you?

Clean Burning Candles

Well, have you ever thought about how ecofriendly your favorite candles are (and how sustainable of a business is creating them)?

When it comes to candles, there are a lot of choices out there, from container style to scent to the specific company itself. And all of these elements can impact how ecofriendly a candle is or not.

For now, let's just focus on the candle wax itself because that's going to have a huge impact on how green and clean a candle is.

Here are the top 3 Most Eco Friendly Types of Candles based on candle wax and what makes them good for the earth:

Clean Candles to Burn

  1. Beeswax Candles - Beeswax candles are a great eco-friendly choice as they are made from a natural and renewable resource. Beeswax is produced by bees and does not require any chemicals or processing. When burned, beeswax candles release negative ions which can help purify the air. They are also long-lasting and do not emit harmful chemicals or soot like some other types of candles. However, beeswax candles are not known for their scent throw, so if you're looking for scented candles, they are not the best option, and you'll likely want to consider one of the next two clean candle options!

  2. Soy Candles - Soy candles are made from soy wax, a natural and renewable resource derived from soybeans. Soy wax is biodegradable and non-toxic, making it an excellent choice for the environment. Soy candles burn cleanly and emit less soot than paraffin candles so they do not pollute your indoor air in the way paraffin candles do. Soy candles also have a longer burn time than traditional candles, making them more economical and more efficient in the long run.

  3. Coconut Wax Candles - Coconut wax candles are a newer eco-friendly option on the market. Coconut wax is made from the meat of coconuts and is a natural and renewable resource. Coconut wax candles burn cleanly and do not emit harmful chemicals or soot. They also have a long burn time and are a great choice for those looking for a more sustainable candle option. Coconut wax is often blended with essential oils for a natural and subtle scent, though seekers of strong smelling candles may prefer soy wax candles.

So, even though it seems like a small thing, the candle you choose to burn in your home can have a long-lasting impact, one way or another!

Choosing an eco-friendly candle can make a big difference in reducing your environmental impact, and can be one of the small changes you make this spring for Earth Day as you work to be more earth-friendly in your own life.

Beeswax, coconut wax, and soy wax candles are all great options that are natural, renewable, and burn cleanly. By choosing these types of candles, you can enjoy the ambiance and fragrance of candles - whether subtle or strong - while being kinder to the earth.
